Awesome Spots to Drink Craft Beer in Pattaya

Life is too short to drink boring beer. Here are our favourite spots to unwind with great craft brews in the nightlife mecca that is Pattaya.

Beerfest

The Tokyo floor of Pattaya’s airport-themed shopping centre Terminal 21 is perhaps an unlikely setting for this microbrewery all about German craft beer and European pub grub. Among the classic brews, you’ll find some more unusual concoctions like an eye-catching and aromatic green beer and a fruity cherry beer. Besides crisp pork knuckle and other staples, the menu even extends to Russian delicacies like beetroot soup.

Great for: German brews and a protein-heavy meal.

Hops Brewhouse

Around since 1997 (formerly under the name Hopf), this cavernous venue lays claim to being Pattaya’s first ever microbrewery. To prove those big copper tanks behind the bar aren’t just for show, you’ll want to get a taste of the home-brewed wheat beer and lager, available by the glass, three-litre “giant” goblet or “yard of ale.” Imported names from Hoegaarden to Paulaner dominate the drink menu, but don’t forget to line your stomach with some crisp pizza, plentiful cold cut platters or the recommended pork knuckle with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Bonus: There’s nightly live music.

Great for: Quality beers and bites in a jam-packed atmosphere.

Jim’s Burger

This growing burger and craft beer empire started life in the Ari suburb of Bangkok. Located just a short walk from S@S Pattaya on Soi Pettrakhul, this branch packs all the American comfort-food favourites onto its menu, from very cheesy burgers through to double paddy monsters, nachos, ribs, wings and waffle fries. To go with, there’s a solid range of international craft labels (think Stone Brewery and Modern Times) and a smattering of locals. Keep your eyes peeled for the recurring IPA buffets and promotions.

Great for: Juicy burgers like you get in the States and rare-find craft beers.

What's Ale?

Check the chalkboard for what’s on offer any given night at this rollicking little saloon-like venue. The taps change regularly but expect cream-of-the-crop international labels like Stone Brewing (U.S.), Tuatara (New Zealand) and Brewdog (Scotland), with the friendly staff happy to recommend even more esoteric offerings available by the bottle. For something a bit different, try one of their beer cocktails like the Cuban Passion (wheat beer and passion fruit). To go with, order a round of meaty nibbles—we suggest the crispy caramel pork. Unlike some of the other bars on this list, What’s Ale? pulls in a largely hip, local crowd.

Great for: A friendly intro to craft beer among locals.

Wizard Beer

More than a bar, this is a genuine craft beer community. As Pattaya’s only microbrewery, Wizard pours beers you won’t find anywhere else in the city. Try the house specialties, everything from hefe weissbier through to black lagers and a pilsner. For dinner, there’s a small menu of Thai classics spanning khao mhu grob (crispy pork) to khao pad (fried rice). If you’re bringing the family, it’s best to get in early as from 10pm the nearby venues are a little unsavoury for children.

Great for: One-of-a-kind local pours and a friendly vibe.
